MIDNIGHT LAND COLLECTIVE

OUR MISSION
We are a Wampanoag-led conservation collaborative dedicated to the rematriation of our ancestral homelands on Nôepe (Martha’s Vineyard). Our work centers on protecting island biodiversity, advancing climate justice, and practicing regenerative agriculture as pathways to nourish both the land and our people. Rooted in traditional Wôpanâak knowledge systems and lifeways, we restore Indigenous stewardship through land return, cultural revitalization, and Indigenous-led wellness initiatives.

OUR COMMITMENTS
REMATRIATION
We are committed to restoring our ancestral lands, guided by the wôpanâak understanding that land is not a commodity or something that we can own - It is a literal extension of our being, and a living, breathing part of us.
REGENERATION OVER EXTRACTION
We practice regenerative agriculture and land care that nourishes rather than depletes — restoring balance between people, plants, soil, our waters and our non-human relatives.
WELL-BEING THROUGH CONNECTION
We believe that land healing and community healing are inseparable. Our programs uplift Indigenous wellness, ceremony, and cultural reconnection.
SOVERIGHNTY NOT SYMBOLISM
We move beyond performative inclusion — centering Indigenous leadership, voices, and values in all we do.
Our Board
Our board is made up of Chappaquiddick and Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribal members who are all local residents of Martha’s Vineyard. Representing all six Island towns, they bring a diverse range of lived experiences, cultural knowledge, and a shared commitment to protecting and restoring our ancestral homelands of Nôepe.
